Dustin Johnson set to Defend as PGA Players Flock to Wisconsin for US Open

Open

The Story:
The state of Wisconsin will host the nation’s most prestigious golf tournament for the first time in its history as the best golfers in the world converged in the Badger State for the 117th U.S. Open which is set to be staged at the Erin Hills golf course starting Thursday June 15. All told, 156 players will be on hand for the second major of the year and the majority will tread the Wisconsin links-like golf course for the first time.

Erin Hills hosted the 2011 U.S. Amateur and while a few golfers like Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau participated in the event, they will find it to be a tad different than it was six years ago. Although water is not an issue, the knee-high fescue rough certainly is. However, the fairways are most generous for a U.S. open venue and that could favor the long hitters of the ball. The course also features a multitude of blind shots and plenty of uneven ground.

One other aspect about Erin Hills is that it will play to a Par 72 which hasn’t occurred since 1992 when Tom Kite won the Open at Pebble Beach. Again, bombers like defending champion Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson to name a few will salivate at the notion of playing four Par fives. Also, with no trees on the layout, wind will be a major factor for the players to navigate around.

Prior good form has always been a factor when teeing it up on Thursday at the U.S. Open. You just don’t come in into this event trying to find your A game. Most of the winners in the past years all came in with relative success prior to the second major championship. Also, not many newcomers or players outside of the Top-50 have claimed the title in recent years. Of the past ten winners, only Lucas Glover could have been considered a long shot to win the event.

Winner:

Justin Rose +2500

The Englishman has all the tools to win at Erin Hills and although his recent form at the U.S. Open has been less than splendid with a missed cut last year, Rose finished in the Top-30 in his last 4 participations before the setback including a win at Merion back in 2013. Rose could have entered the tournament wearing a green jacket and his impeccable ball-striking ability will come in handy in Wisconsin.

Top-5 Cert:

Jason Day +1400 (winner) +250 (Top-5)

While Day has struggled this season from his usual standard, he remains a force to reckon with in Major Championship play. The Aussie finished second and T15 in his previous two tournament so he comes into this tournament in good form. Add in the fact that Day has been a permanent fixture on U.S. open leaderboards as he has notched five Top-10 finishes in in last six appearances in the nation’s championship.

My Upset:

Louis Oosthuizen +4500

Although Oosthuizen is considered an elite player, he always seemed to fly under the radar but don’t be fooled, he has the mettle to grab his second-career major this weekend. The South African has made the cut in every event he has taken part of and almost captured the Players a month ago. He was also second two years ago in this tournament at Chambers Bay which resembles very much like Erin Hills.

Propping up:

  1. Take Adam Scott for Top-5 finish +500
  2. Take Rory McIlroy for Top-10 finish +110
  3. Take Alex Noren for Top Swedish Player +175
  4. Take Jason Dufner for Top-5 +1000
  5. Take Hideki Matsuyama-115 over Henrik Stenson-115 in Tournament Match Up

Here are the Odds for the Top Field:

Dustin Johnson +750
Rory McIlroy+1200
Jason Day+1400
Jordan Spieth+1400
Jon Rahm+2000
Rickie Fowler+2000
Justin Rose+2500
Sergio Garcia+2500
Adam Scott+2800
Henrik Stenson+3000
Hideki Matsuyama+3300
Justin Thomas+3300

Free Golf Betting Tips

Us Open Betting 2017 College Football

Hi! My name is Graeme and this is my golf betting tips website.
I have been providing free golf betting tips on GolfBettingTips.org since September 2014, and have been betting on golf since the early 2000s.
I cover the PGA, WGC, European Tour, Champions Tour and LPGA primarily. I'll also dabble in tournaments such as the Asian Tour and the Web.com Tour from time to time.
All of my golf betting tips are free. I spend about 10 hours each week studying the golf bets and making my picks so hell - what's another hour doing a write-up for this website? If anything it's good karma and I can get on board with that.
You can also get all of my golf tips e-mailed to you for free as well. Simply enter your e-mail address below:
You'll see links to sportsbooks throughout the site. These are sportsbooks that I personally trust and bet at. If you sign up via my links I also get a small payment for every new signup. You don't have to do that but it's appreciated it if you do - 1 signup per week basically covers my beer for the weekend!
If you have any questions you can contact me at Graeme@GolfBettingTips.org.
Cheers,
Graeme
